Sol Shine Learning
Welcome to Sol Shine Learning!
Welcome to Sol Shine Learning! I'm Andrea Soto, owner and educator. My practice focuses on rich academic instruction while connecting with students as humans, aiming for joy and laughter in every session. I offer 1:1, group, and travel tutoring, plus parent/educator consultation. I have nearly 20 years of teaching experience in public and private schools, as well as travel and homeschool settings. I believe every child can learn and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. I look forward to connecting with you and your child!
The Sol Shine Approach
The name Sol Shine Learning is meant to capture the ethos of my practice. While rich academic instruction is paramount, teaching to and connecting with students as humans is at the heart of what I aim to accomplish. Smiles and laughter are a goal for every session so the name Sol Shine Learning also represents the joy I strive for while teaching. I currently offer tutoring in a 1:1 or group capacity, as well as travel tutoring sessions, and parent/educator consultation.
I’ve been a dedicated educator in the Santa Barbara area for nearly 20 years. I hold a multiple subject California teaching credential for grades K-6 and have been trained in a variety of curriculums including: IMSE (an Orton-Gillingham based language arts curriculum), Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop, Singapore Math, and Bridges Math.
At the heart of my educational philosophy is my belief in a deep and sincere human connection with each student. Tutoring sessions will balance game and play-based learning with direct and systematic instruction. All sessions are hands-on, multi-sensory, and often tailored to individual student interests and passions.
I’m an avid sports fan and dedicated Swiftie so you can expect us to be movin’, groovin’, and learnin’ all at the same time!

“Andrea is really nice and great with kids. She’s patient and makes learning fun and easy.”
“Andrea is warm, enthusiastic, uber patient, and so wise. Her depth of experience and breadth of knowledge in approaches to learning is impressive, and her passion for teaching is palpable and infectious. My son looks forward to her visits and ends the sessions feeling confident and joyful about learning. When he first began working with Andrea, he was testing “below grade level” on state standardized tests; in one school year with Andrea he raised his testing performance by 2.5 grade levels. Most importantly, however, he became a confident reader and mathematician thanks to Andrea’s partnership with him. Our entire family loves Andrea and looks forward to her sessions — she’s simply the best.”
